Misa Klingle, of Mount Pleasant,Disap- pears, but Sends an Explanatory Note to Her Father—She ts Supposed to Have Gone witha Suit ¢to Whom Her Father Objected. ‘Yesterday afternoon Mr. J. P. Klingle, a well- known citizen, who has a residence at Mount Pleasant, received a note from his daughter which was handed to him by a servant who had just returned with the carriage from driving Miss Klingle to the city. The note read some- what In this sty! think {t strange, “Dearest Papa: You won't ‘and you won't beangry with me. told youl loved him. Icouldn't help it. Now I am off to Baltimore with him to be married, but we shall return to the elty to-night, and shall stay at the Hamtiton House; now you won't be angry with me, for loving my darling, will you?" Nir Rifngle at once surmised that the “him” referred to E. J. Darling, a young man whom he had occasion some months ago to caution in re- gard to bis attentions to his daughter. Darling is @ man of twenty-eight or thirty years of age, and while not a handsome man has the air and style ofa person who has seen @ good deal of the world. He came here about a year and stopped at the Hamilton, where he was shortly after joined by his mother. Mrs. Darling is the widow of Gen. Darling, of the U.S. army, a woman of literafy tastes and good ‘social con- nections. The sonaccompanted his mother in her social rounds, and knew her acquaintances, In this way he became acquainted with Miss Klingle, a rather prepossessing young girl of eighteen. He became a visitor at the Klingle house, but Mr. Klingle finding that he was coming, as thought, ‘too much in- terested, in his daughter, told him as leasantly as le that any ing further than a friendship for bis dqpghtcr was not desired. Darling was at this tffne liv- ing at the Hamiiton, and his business, as stated by himself, was that of literary and ‘dramatic critic. In "the spring he left the Hamilton house, and_has been living elsewhere in the city. "He is not said to be a man of dissipated habits. After the caution to the young people Mr. Klingle had reason to suspect that they were meeting clandestinely, and so had his daughter watched, but as nothing of the sort Was discovered this precaution was abandoned. Mr. Klingle, however, now belleves that the two lovers’ continued to meet in ways and places that he knew nothing of. ‘The servant that returned with the note trom Miss Klingle stated that he drove to the Boston. store and Miss Klingle went in, and after stay- ing a short time she came out, and entering the carriage was driven to 7th street. She got out of the carriage and told the servant that she in- tended to remain in the city all night for the purpose of going to the theater, and asked him to take the note to her father. It seems that while in the store Miss Klingle wrote the note given above. The references in it to Baltimore and the Hamilton are believed by her father now to be mere devices to throw any one in pur- suit off the track. He is inclined to think, after an investigation last night with the ald of the ice, that they may not have left the city It is not sald that Mr. Klingle feels harshly towards the young man, but some one whosaw, him last night said that he did not appear to be mad, only he looked like a man who had some business to attend toand was not going to be diverted. — Ropserres REPORTED.—Seven robberies were reported to police headquarters this morning, amounting to $271,0f which $43 worth have been recovered.
