It appeared, however, that his Papers had constituted no part of the devise under his will, their value being supposed to be inconsiderable; but since the passage of the French spoliation bill some of his papers have become very valu- able. Mr. Causten having been engazed in the prosecution of F spoliation claims had compiled, with many years’ labor,a volume con- taining the histories of nearly every ship eap- tured by the French cruisers, and of the rights ofthe owners to compeusation. The value of this book now is said to be upwards of 250,000, General B. F. Butler appeared in the Probate Court in behalf of Mrs. Alice Causten Fisher, who was disinherited by her father, the late James H. Causten.
