The Monument Struck by Lightning. THE ALUMINIUM TIP RECEIVES THREE POWER FUL CHARGES WITHOUT INJURY. During yesterday's severe storm the Wash- ington monument was struck by lightning three times withont the jable effect. As soon asthe flashes reached the aluminium tip, which fs the terminus of the lightning rod, the electricity was harmiessly conveyed to the ground. A clerk in the seeond auditor's office happened to turn_ his eyes towards the monu- ment as a dense black cloud hung over the city, and saw a flash extending down ina perpen dicular direction and strike the tip.
