It shows that the printing ordered by the Senate cost $149,143, against $64,464, and that ordered by the House cost $276,833 against £175,207 for the previous year. ‘The Record for the first session of the Forty-etghth. Congress contatned 7,503 pages, and the printer recommends that speeches held for revision be re uired to be furnished for publication within five lays. Hie also recommends some change in the method of advertising and contracting for paper,as calling for the lowest bids leaves room for contro- ‘yersy as to quality. He thinks the committee on printing should be vested with a larger discretion ‘as to quality. Mrs. Staniey Matthews Dying. Mrs, Stanley Matthews, the wife of Mr. Justice Matthews, of the U. S. Supreme Court, who Is lying very fll, was reported to-day to be dying. She has suffered for some time with Cancer.
