After the sermon the ceremonies proper to the ‘opening session of the council began. An antiphon and psalm were sung by the cholr, after which the apostolic delegate recited a prayer in Latin in front ot the altar. The Litany of the Saints was then chanted under direction of Rev. Wm. E. Bartlett, of Baltimore. After anotner short prayer by the apostolic delegate the Rev. D. E. Lyman read trom he scriptures and the cholr sang “Vent Creator.” ‘The apostolic delegate then, from a seat in front of the altar, read an address in Latin formally open- ing the ‘council Monsignor Corcoran, chief secre- ‘tary of the council, then read the preliminary de- erees regurding the rules to be observed in the council, and called the roll of membership. All the members Of the council then made the profession of faith by advancing in pats Jn front of te altar and kissing an open copy of the scriptures. The secretary then announced that the next session of the council, will begin at 10a. m. to-day In the cathedral. The apostolic, delegate then gave the papal benediction, concluding the services.
