Close of the Trial of the Man Who Killed Officer Fowler—The Jury Dis Powe of the Case in Half an Hour. ‘The trial of John Langster, alias Lancaster, allas George T. Hudson, the colored man indicted for the murder of Pollcetaaa Join H. Fowler, on the 9th of September last, when Fowler was attempting to arrest him asa fugitive from the chalu-gang, was concluded at half-past five o'clock last evening with a verdict of guilty. In the Court in General Term—Chief Justice Cart- ter and Judges Macarthur and James—to-day, the arguments in the case of habeas corpus to effect the discharge of James Barnard Shugrue from the marine corps, on the ground that he is a minor, was resumed. ‘Mr. Lovejoy, for the relator, continued his ar- gument. After contending that the marine corps did not come within the provisions of the law rela- tive to the enlistment of he referred to the recruiting officer having exeeeded his authori- ty by adding to the oath the words—“and Iam over 21 years of age.” ‘This stamped the proceed- ings as Totten, and was sufficient of itself to war- Tant the court in discharging the boy.
