About noon yesterday a party of negroes, con- sisting of Walter Jones, aged 23; Robert, allas Cuffee Burrer, aged 21; Moses Winter and another man, were playing “sweat” on the porch In fruat of Dan Toumey’s saloon, at the corner of 3d and L Streets southwest. Burrer, was banker and shaker, and during the progress of the game Jones ac- ‘cused him of cheating and demanded the return of a dollar which he had lost in the game. This was refused by Burrer, and angry words were Indulged 4m for some minutes, when Burrer walked off to- wards K street, being followed by Jones. Burrer picked up a stone and drew nis penknife, placing them both in the same hand, and walked slowly towards K street. Just before he reached the cor- ner Jones overtook him and another angry discus- slon took place, followed by blows. The men then clinched and rolled about, Jones having Burrer under his left arm and pounding tin with his right fist. THE CORONER'S INQUEST. Soon after the cutting Drs. Hartigan and Leech made an autopsy, and Coroner Patterson proceeded to hold an inquest.
