THE PROCEEDINGS OF A COURT OF JUSTICE INTER- RUPTED BY HIS ANTICS. Several days ago there was a case tried in the Police Court in which the members of an Irish family were charged with whipping a family of Russian Jews. Among the members of the Jewish family was a small boy, apparently two or three Years of age, who was the most mischievous boy ever seen tn acourt of Justice. While his father ‘Was trying to make the judge understand how bad- ly be was beaten his youthful sob was swinging on the back of the Judge's chair, which so annoyed his honor that he gave the young man notice to quit. ‘The boy still thought of his father, and he ella over ther i, crawled between the slats and an- noyed his father, who was on the witness stand. After being driven away from his father, he walked Silently over to the water cooler and turned on the water, which Tan hali-way across the room. ‘The janitor, who was sitting in. the corner nodding luis ead, Was awakened by the running of the water from’the cooler. He immediately turned off the water and took the Uttle fellow to task about it. The litle fellow ytood silent for a moment, and when Uhings had quieted down picked up his father’s whip and went for the janitor, who had some trouble in getting it from him. ‘The judge had now lost his patience and informed the bad boy's mother that she would have to take her son in charge, whici she did, but he bezan to sing a song and had to be let free. He again got posses- sion of the Whip, and was attempting to ciear the court room when the case was ended, the bad boy's father coming out victorious, their opponents ing fined. THE HARDSHIPS SUPFERED BY MURDERER ANDREW KOWLAND IN HIS STRUGGLE FOR LIBERTY. ‘The escape of Andrew Rowland, who was locked in an Iron cage at Atlanta, Ga., adds another chap- ter to the story of a remarkable prisoner. About three years ago Rowland killed his man and escaped. He cluded the vigliance of the officers for | over two years, although he spent most of the time in his old haunts. He was finally caught, convicted, and sentenced to be hanged on the 4th of last April Upto the day on which execution Was Lo have taken place no move had been made to interfere with it. The next day it was ar in several newspapers Uiat Andrew Rowland hud been executed, one of them giving a pathetic death scene, The fact was that at the very last moment Rowland’s attorney made an application for a new trial and the prisoner was given longer lease of lire.
