Sundry Civil Appropriation Bi SENATE AMENDMENTS—THE CLAUSE LOOKING TO PRINTING OF REVENUE STAMPS OUTSIDE THR TAEASURY STRICKEN OUT. ‘The Senate committee on appropriations made humerous changes in the sundry civil bil. Among ‘the most important amendments are $2,500 to pay expenses already incurred for the Slamese embassy; {$025,506.85 for payment of awardsof the late French ‘and American claims commission against the United States: to euale the Secretary of State to appoint, when necessary, medical inspectors to be attach to U. 8 consulates in countries where yellow fever, cholera or plague exists in epidemic form, $10,000. A total increase over the House bill of $633,000 1s made in the various appropriations for pubitc bulld- ings throughout the country. In this connection, an amendment is inserted appropriating, $3,000 for the salary of an inspector of public bull ‘and {the sum of $8,000 Is appropriated for the salary ot this official. ‘Under the head of Ught-houses, bea- cons and fog signals an increase of $68,500 1s insert- ed. For engraving and printing the appropriation is incr ‘from $475,000 to $515,000, and the item forengraving end fnishing circulating notes for national banks is increased from $110,000 to $150,000. For “light-house establishment” net increase of $87,000 is -made. Under the head of “party ex- penses” for the coast and geodetic survey nearly every item of the House bill is increased, involving @ total increase of $46,800.
