To the Editor of Tar EVENING Stan: As the Commissioners, in their letter objecting to the passage of the bill allowing damages for street Improvements since 1970, did not exhaust the Subject, nor show its full injustice, I venture to add one or two substantial reasons to those pointed out by them. “As 1s well known, street. improve- ments have progressed in the District for ninety years or more, and the people of Georgetown and & Portion of Washington have been compelled to Submit to grading and cutting of streets without compensation for injury during all that time. ‘This Dill now proposes to give those people nothing who suMfered prior to 1970, but totax them to, help pay. infustice a 99 gross that ho faxeminied tan can 30 tno fair-t man well entertain iteven in bis own favor. Apart trom these, full justice was done alike to the pretty melodies and quaint musi- caleffects. The singing and acting of Miss Fanny Redding a8 the King, Miss Searle as the Queen's confidante, Mr. Pyke as Cervantes, and Miss Man- fred 2s the Queen, showed an artistic appreciation of the work and they were rewarded with frequent Tounds of applause, while the antics of Mr. Greensfel- derand, Mr. Gustave Adolphias Prime Minister and Tutor & the King, ey, kept®the audience in roars of laughter while they were on the stage. ‘The latter's apostrophe to thé moon was one of the hits of the evening. The chorus is strong enough for the work, and the orchestra fair.
