DEATHS IN THE DISTRICTDPURING JANUARY—FIGURES FROM THE HEALTH OFFICER'S REPORT. During the month of January, according to the Teport of Health OMicer Townshend, there were 453 deaths in the District. Of this number 132 were white males, 120 white females, 96 colored males and 105 colored females, This gives a death rate of 23.21 per 1,000 per annum for the whites, 34.81 for the edlored and 27-18 for the total population. The death rate 1s unusually high for the month of Jan- uary, being higher by 3.63 per 1,000 per annum for the whites, 1.63 for the negroes and 3.11 for the to- tal population than the mean rates of the month of January for the past ten years. Twenty-six deaths occurred in Georgetown, 33 in the county, 49 in the yarlous public institutions and 345 in ‘the city.
