In his address to the Louisville convention, Mr. Frederick Dougiass tells the colored people that eleva to office will place them upon a plane of equality with the white race. If Mr. Douglass ‘Understan‘s his race the complaint of the negro Is that he Is dented office; his one great desire and Geman: is for oMce. He sums the whole situation up in a wall for office. He declares: “Elevate one of our race to the vice presidency or to a position in the Cabinet, and our equallty shall have been established.” In other words oflce holding 13 a Pancea for all the social and political ills, real and !maginary, of the colored race.
