This morning, in the Pollce Court, Policeman David Norcombe, of the fourth precinct, was put on trial for clubbing a prisoner—the third such casein this GOurt within a week. The complain. ant in the case was a wiry-looking colored woman named Ellza Dyer. Mr. C. Carrington appeared for the defendant. Eliza stated that last Sunday, between 9 and 12 o'clock, she was in her back room, partly dressed, when the ofloer walked in and asked for Eltza Dyer. Witness asked If he had a warrant, when ho replied that he was warrant enough for her. She tried to get her basque on, but he dragged her to the front door and clubbed her. She resisted to get her clothes on, when he clubbed her til her arm fell lifeless to her side, when he put the nip- pers on her. ‘The officer stated that he was sent out by his Meutenant to quell a disturbance in this house, When he went into the house he put her under arrest, and she asked permission to dress, which he granted.
