THE HEARING IN THE POLICE COURT, In tie Police Court this morning Clifton was charged with disorterly conduct. Mr. H.H. Wells appeared for the defendant, and spoke of pleading guilty and submitting to tue usual penalty. ‘The prosecuting attorney said he would ask for more than the ushal penalty in case of conviction. OMicer Slack stated that he was called on by the watchman to go to the sewer as there was going to be a riot. He found 150 or 200 menon the ground and ordered them to disperse. They refused to obey, and Wash Meredith threatened to pull him (he officer) off os horse. The steamer Eureka, which arrived at Victorta, B.C, yesterday, from the north, brought news of the horrible tragedy at the Dakon mine, near Har- risburg, Alaska. Indians broke into a cabin and stole a bottle of whisky. As soon as the fact was discovered the whisky dealers started after the Indians, and ina fight with them Rennie, one of the pursuers, was killed. The citizens in force then arrested three of the Indians, confining them in the guard house. During the temporary ab- sence of the guard the Indians procured a pistol, shooting the former on his return. They then fled. ‘The report or the pistol awoke Major Givens, formerly of the Untied States army, who rushed to the Tescue, and was shot down wounded. ‘The Thdlans then took an axe and hacked his head to pleces, when they attempted to make good thelr es- cape, but a number of miners who had reached the scene shot One of tnem down and arrested another. The third escaped.
