Cllftord, one o our most widely known citizens, dled at his home last evening. He had been falling for some Ume, but bis tmmediate death was not antic uted. Mr. Clifford came here from Prince Wil- tam county, Vu., some thirty-five years azo, and for many yea's engaged in the shoe business. He has fited’a number of minor public offices. and until two years ago was superintendent of police or street commissioner. He took, in 1881, the con- tract as night scavenger, and tutroduced here the odorless sysiem, which was belng used here under his direction at the time of his death. DeATH.—Dr. Welsh, residing on Royal, between King and Prince streets, died thts morning. He came here several years ago from Fauquier county.
