Once upon a time three taflors of Tooley street, London, mnct and organized themselves into a mass convention, and put forth a ponderous “Appeal,” Prefaced by the following preamble: “Whereas we, the people of England,” &., &. Similarly these three plasterers (double-distiled “seabs”) have met and put forth an appeal, In the name of the 22,000 plasterers of the United States!” ‘Thus history ts ever repeating !tselt! Now, fellow-craftsmen of all unions tn Wash- j ington, we wish to show you who and what these three worthies are who, with unparalleled Inso- lence, and an assurance that would imake a brass Statue Dlusti, have dared to ask you to censure your delexates In the Federation because they Would neither hear nor receive them in Its coun- ella. This committee, fellow-craftsmen, speak by the record in the following brief bit of history: Joseph Rosenberry, first of these “delegates,” who 1s 30 ‘shock doings of Plasterers’ Assembly No. 1é44, Knights of Labor, has been long a member of that “oath-bound Gody,” with all that itim- one of its officers More than that, nd, he was the most flerce, rabid and sing tn that be ng been mx o give the “bosses” per day would be de- maneed, ber moved to make It two days, and his’ m Was adopted. The real authors of this precious document have left their ear-inarks upon it. Having lost control of the Federation, and fearful that tt may overturn their partizan schemes, they take this sneaking method to stab the Federation in the dark by the ald of these dirty tools. But the Federation will live and prosper and gain new vigor and usefulness, now that new and vigorous blood has been injected and assumed the reins. So, too, the same hands seek to strike a blow at the Knights of Labor, that feally “monster organization” of 1,000,000 work- ingmen, which 1s now in deadly grapple with the most shameful, the most rapacious, and soulless among the great corporations that are slowly but surely forcing down the level of the rates pald to ‘the 14,000,000 Of wage-workers in the Union. Fellow-craftsmen, it would occupy too much Space for us to go further into this appeal, but we could point out to you falsehood after falsehood and misrepresentation in that half column that Woull mount up as high as the clergyman’s seventeenthly, had we space, but the speciinens we have given you are but samples of the whole of it. Brothers, instead of fearing that you will rebuke us for not hearing these men, we only fear that you will ask us to resign, that we did not throw these pitiful sneaks down stairs, instead of courteously Inviting them to depart again to their own place, as the hog naturally returns to his wal- low and the dog to his vomit, At any rate, in this matier, “If we have done anything wrong, we are lad of 11” wThe men whose names are attached to this “ap- peal” are the workingman’s deadliest toes. They are of the class that are first and foremost to stir up strife, bitterne-s and strikes; but when the tuz of war comes are the first to desert to the enemy. It Js they whom the employers use In war time to endeavor to “i.v.de and conquer.” They have already taken hundreds, yes, thousands, of dollars of their fellow-craftsmen’s pockets by their ery.
