Tolman against ex-District Commissioner 8. L. pe) for $10,000 damages for false imprisonment. ‘The defendant employed the plaintiff to erect his houses after the death of the late T. M. Plowman, and a dispute arising Tolman was discharged; and he claiming the plans and specifications re~ fused to surrender them to defendant. Capt. Phelps procured awatrant July 4th, 1870, chars- ing Tolman with larceny, on which he was arrested and taken to a late station, and the case belng heard by Judge Suell the prisoner was dismissed. He leaves a wife and six children in com- fortable circumstannes, 5 — A Snort Vacation.—Agnes White, a gray-haired woman, about sixty years old, who'has spent the greater part of the last thirty years in the work- jouse, Was in the dock at Judge Snell’s court this morning charged with being a vagrant and with being found drunk on the street. The old woman pleaded to be let off, saying that she only got out of the workhouse at’ o'clock yesterday afternoon, after serving three months,and was arrested again in a few hours. A sentence of 90 days on the farm Was Imposed, and the wreck of a once handsome woman tottered into the dock for the hundredth time, while the officers sitting around the court, who’ had many a hard struggle with her, re- marked, “Ah! the old woman ts dying at last—she RAS he cooeim usion.
