Rejected models in the Patent office were sold to-lay at private sale and at auction. The sale comprised all unclaimed models and represented every class in the Patent office. About 16,000 were sold, There was a good crowd in attendance and the bidding was lively considering the fact that the models were valuable only for the metal they contained. There were quite a number which had an intrinsic Value to Inventors and experimenters. These were sold at private sale and brought a total of about $260. The auction sale was con- ducted by Mr. Latimer and realized $502 ‘These old models were sold to get them out of the way and make room for Incoming models. Among the models sold were quite a number that were devised to represent perpetual motion. All of them had ceased to move, however, and what, perhaps, com- prised the result of a lifetime of labor on the part of some foolish enthustast, went for a song, to be melted down as old metal. ———.__ Commissions were to-day issued to the follow- ing postmastersin Virginia: Wm.
