Judge Wylie’s Life Threatenca by Invane Lawyer England. REMARES OF THE JUDGE IN COURT CuNEURING THE AUTHORITIES FOR ALLOWING RNGLAND TO GO aT LARGE—A JUROR’S SORE THROAT CAUSES A POST- PONEMENT OF THE TRIAL UNTIL TO-MORROW. When the Criminal Court, Judge Wyle, met this morning to resume the star route trial, the seat of one of the jurors—Mr. George B. Sheriff—was va- cant. The judge said that he desired to speak of matter which did not belongto thecase. He understood, from a bailiff of the court, that a crazy man, named England, &@ member of the bar, who had come from Rockville, Md., had been in the court-room threatening the court, or rather the personnel of the court, Itwas a disgrace that the authorities should allow such a man so many days to go at large. He would think nothing of the matter If the man was sane, and he should think nothing of the threat. Tt was only this Morning that he had read of the fatal shooting of man by an insane man nearthe Relay House. It seems that insanity was in his family, and yet he was permitted to go at large. He ‘supposed that the court misht make an order, but he was not inclined to interfere in matters that properly Delonged to somebody else. “Your Lonor,” said Mr. Carpenter, “might make an order not to admit Lim.” Judge Wylie said he had made such an order, and added, “and I belleve that 13 the reason he threatens to shoot me.” Judge Wyle then read a note from Juror Sheriff, dared Benning’s, stating that he was suffering with a sore throat, and wouid not be able to attend court until to-morrow. The case was then ad- Journed ull 10 o’elock to-morrow morning. PROGRAM OF FUTURE PROCEEDINGS IN THE TRIAL UNDETERMINED, arly all of the star route counsel were present when the court assembled this morntng, and there was considerable interest manifested in the pro- gram to be followed by the defense. Mr. Merrick, having returned trom a brief vacation at Gid Point Comfort, said he was ready to go on with his part. Mr, Ingersoll was present, and, il was understood, Was prepared to follow Mr. Wilson. When the court adjourned last nizht it was undecided who should follow Mr. Wiigon. Some of the defense said this morning that there was a question whether Mr. Carpenter or Mr. Henkle shoul! ve the next speaker. O:e plan suggested has been tohave Mr. Ingersoll follow Mr. Wilson and close the case for the defense, In case Air. Ingersoll docs speak next, however, there will probally be Some short speech presenting the Geiense of Messrs, Miner and Vaile, THE THREATS TO WHICH THR JUDGE REFERRED in his remarks were made by H.
