In the divorce suit of Josepn McDonald agt. Kate McDonald, the latter has filed an answer by ‘Messrs. Hancock, Hay and Griswold. The charge made by plaintiff was cruel treatment, which cul- mtnated in driving him from the house. She de- ‘nies that'she has been cruel to him, and asserts that he has egigcted her, refusing to give her sufficient clothing or to provide for her wants, on account of which she has become ‘fretful at times and complained of bis conduct, which led to quarrels, and she charges that he once struck her on the noge, and admits that she scratched him once and struck him once with herhand. She charges that he has withdrawn himself trom her society without cause. ——————— The A. M. E. Conference. OPENING OF THE ANNUAL SESSION AT HAGERSTOWN. The Baltimore conference of the African M. E. church, embracing Maryland and the District of Columbia, began its sixty-sixth annual session in the Bethel church, of Hagerstown,Md., yesterday. Bishop D. A. Payne, late president of Wilberforce University, Xenia, 0., presided, with Bishop Way- man assisting. About sixty members responded totheroll-call Mev. J. H. A. Jonson was re- elected secretary, with J. H. CoHett, statistical as- sistant, and Wm. H. Bro’ recording assistant. ‘The cail of the roll showed that Revs. Valentine, Timothy and Lewis had withdrawn from the con- ference, and that Rev. Wm. H. Snyder had died during the past year. The report of Rev. G. W. Brodie shows that no money was collected during the yeur for the mite society missionary work or presiding elders’ support. Rev. J, H. A.
