MINISTER SARGRNT—THE PORK QUFSTION. Beatin, May 1.—The Nord Deutsche Zeitung, commenting on the interview with Mr. Sargent, the American minister, published in the Boersen Courter, in which Mr. Sargent dented that he had written’ uny article to the New Forker Handels- on the subject of American pork, says the best answer to Mr. Sargent’s statements therein is simply to reproduce the “article,” which appeared in the Handels-Zeitung with’ Mr. Sar- gent’s signature attached. Mr. Sargent should ex- plain how his signaiure appeared without his ‘stra subsequent correction from him. ‘The Nord Deutche Zeitung declares that it will never attack a minister of a friendly state when he is acting in his oMfctal capacity. It has now only to deal with @ newspaper article, which. contained statements Injurious to Germany. It will, it says, be glad to hear thag the signature of Mr. Sargent thereto was a mistake. {Yote.—There seems to be some confusion in Germany touching the communication of Mr. Sargent.
