The Star Route Trial. MR. KER'S SUMMING UP. Mr. Kerresumed his address to the Jury in the Star route trial thts morning, continuing his review of the testimoay of the Bismarck and Tongue River route. Mr. Ker having finished the consideration of this Toute, sald the testimony he had reviewed covered more than 4,390 pages. They had listened to the testimony of 150 witnesses. There were in the case over 2,761 separate papers, which had passed through the hands of the clerk and so carefully handled by him that there was not a single dupli- cate mark upon them. There were 21 oaths in the case. Dropping from this number the oath on the Sacuache route made by Sanderson, and Vaile’s Oath, there were loft 19 oaths. NINETERN FALSE OATHS. In that nineteen there Lad not been one which had not been altered and changed. There was not one which was not a fraudulent, false oath. Relkin’s oath was signed in blank and filled up in Washington. Vaile’s oath, if 1t was not signed in blank, was as false and fraudulent as any of the others. Not one of the oaths was truthful. After the midday recess Mr. Ker continued his address. —— The Anderson-Carr Homicide. TRIAL OF JOSHUA ANDERSON FOR MURDER. In the Spectal Criminal Court, Judge MacArthur, yesterday, the trial of Joshua Anderson on an indictment for the murder of James Carr, on De- cember 81, 1881, was continued after our report closed, Mr. Cook speaking in defense of the pris- oner tll the hour of adjournment. Mr. Cook resumed his argument this morning, commenting on the evidence in behalf of the prisoner, claiming that it showed beyond the shadow of a doubt that the prisoner acted in self- defense. Mr. Cook concluded his argument about 11:15, and then asked If the defense should present thelr prayers now, Peers F that Judge Wylle had in the star route case decide? that the proper Ume to presett prayers Was al the conclusion of the argument. ‘The court sald the star route trial was scarcely @ precedent. ir, Cook.—* For thts case or anything.” The defense presented the prayers, some of which were rejected and others granted, and the court said that he would in his charge act on the principles involved. THE COURT INSTRUCTS THE JURY. The court said he would instruct the jury that they could, under the indictment, find a verdict of guilty of manslaughter. A recess was taken, and at 12:30 o'clock District Attorney Corkhill commenced the closing argu- ment, which he concluded at 1:12. ‘WAITING FOR A VERDICT. Judge MacArthur charged @ue jury at some length, defining murder, manslaughter and justi- fiabvle homicide, and referring to the testimony as to threats used before the homicide by Carr and the character of the parties, and admonished the jury not to allow a mere fancy to take the place of Teasonable doubt in their deitherations, The jury retired at 2:05 o'clock. ——— Contracts for Carrying the Mails. He compli- mented the spirit in which the American press treated the Irish question, America had given {Irishmen employment, but Irishmen had done America’s hardest work on the elds of both peace and war. Father Agnew, formerly of Scotland, now a dele- gate of the United Manhattan League, then ad- dressed the convention. He satd that ‘the Irish in | England and in Scotland would have been the first to feel the effects of any intemperate action on the part of this convention, and he was glid to congratulate the delegates that their action had so far been wise and moderate. A telegram of sympathy from the Irishmen of Wilmington, North Carolina, was then read by the secretary. It was moved that a vote of thanks be tendered to Revs. Father Boylan and Agnew.
