Miller for the accused. —_—___ A CONFLAGRATION IN THE SOLDIERS’ HOME Gxounns.—A biaze on the horizon north of the city last evening, just after dark, gave rise toa report that the Soldiers’ Home was on fire. The conflagration continued for about three hours. It turned out to be the hay barracks in the Soldiers’ Home grounds that was on fire. The building was entirely consumed, togetuer with about ninety tons of hay. Chiei Cronin, the mem- bers of No. 6 engine company and the police offi- cers of the second precinct, went to the fire, but their services were of little avail, owing to’ the lack of water.
