The aldermen are unanimously in favor of p!acing Officer W. W. Rock in charge, and managing the wharf and recelving the wharfage directly for the city. It is contended that this method will avoid all trouble about fish offal, handling fish, &., and will be more profitable to the city’ than the method of leasing the wharf at public auction, which has been the custom here since the open- ing of the century, and ts followed in Washington and in Georgetown. In consequence of this dis- agreement the committee on public property have not yet fixed a day for the public renting of the fish wharf. The lease of Mr. 8. J. Reed, the present lessee, expires Upon the ist of March next. MIDLAND R. R.
