Sherman’s sixty-third hirthday,which occurred yesterday, was the occasion of a banquet given in compliment to him by District Attorney Corxhill, at the Portland. The guests were Gen. Sherman, Chief Justice Waite, Mr. Justice Miller, Mr. Justice Matthews, Speaker Keifer, Attorney General Brewster. Gen. P. H. Sheridan, Senators Hawley, Sherman, Logan and Allison, Marshal McMichael, Catef Justice Cartter, of the District judiciary; “First Assistant Postmaster General Hatton, H. J. Ramsdell, Stilson Hutchins, Henry Watterson and Gen. Van Vilet. ‘The dinner served was complete in all its features, and the host pro- vided surroundings which were felicttously appro- priate to the occasion. During the week ending February 84, 1883, there were 83 deaths reported In the District of Columpla, Of this number 35 were white mal 13 white females, 20 colored males and 15 colores females, giving adeath rate of 2248 per 1,000 per annum for the total population, 19.76 for the wnite and 27.71 for the colored population. Reported for THE EVENING Stan. ‘THE COMING MASONIC CENTENNIAL.—Washington Lodge of Freemasons arranged, last night, for thetr centenntal celebration. The lodge was or- ganized on the 25th of February, 178% There were in this city, previous to that date, six Free- masons—Dr. C."C. Dick, one of Washington’ phystcians, who had been made a Mason in Phila- delphia; Robert Adams, who had been made a Mason in Annapolis, and John Allison, Michael Ryan, Wm. Hunter and Peter Dow. These gentic- men ‘made application to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania and were authorized to open a lodge. Messrs. Young and Proctor, of Pennsylvania,came to this city, and, with Messrs. Adams, Allison, Dow and Dick, instituted the lodge at the Lamb tavern, on Union street, between King and Prince streets, on the 25th of February, 1783.
