Maurice Smith ap- pearing for the prisoner. STOLEN PROPERTY IDENTIFIED. The case for receiving stolen property trom Mr. R. C. Fox, 1409 Massachusetts avenue, whose house was burglarized in April last, was first called, and Mr.Fox identified among the prop- erty found on Harbour's premises a call-bell, worth about 22.50. Mr. G. W. Adams, of 1204 K street.and Kichard West Identified articles stolen from Mr. Adams’ residence April 22 last, among them five dessert spoons, twenty-two plated forks, ete. Col. Bliss, of 820 Connecticut avenue, identified four salt cellars and an egg spoon taken with other articles October 20 and 21. A. Spotford identified a half dozen plated forks n spoons stolen October 24. George A. Coolidge, formerly of 822 Connecticut avenue | identified a pair of suzar tongs stolen from his house. The following bill, which has passed the House and is now before the Senate District committee, has been reterred by that committee to the Dis- trict Commisstoners, with the request that they will, after examination, give their opinion upon the propriety of its passage: AN Act to amend certain sections of the Re- vised Statutes relating to the District of Co- lumbia. Be it enacted by the Senate ana House of Repre- sentatives of the United States of America in Con- gress assembled, That section five hundred and thirty-four of the Revised Statutes of the United States relating to the District of Columbia be. and is hereby, amended so as to read as follows: “ Sec. 534. Such society or congregation may assume a& name, and any number of trustees, not. exceeding ten, who shall be styled trustees of such society or congregation by the name so ag- sumed, may be elected or appointed according to the rules or discipline governing the church or denomination to which said society or con- gre-ration may belong.” that section five hundred and thirty-six be, hereby, amended sv as to read as follows: 536. OLD StvpENTs’ MEETING.—The Old Students’ society of St. John’s Academy, met at its lec- ture room last night, and elected its officers for the year. Judge Chas. E. Stuart was chosen president, with vice presidents and other officers representing twenty-one states and territories. A committee of five was appointed to arrange for the semi-centennial of the school, when it Is proposed to encamp near the city, and celebrate the centennial by a banquet, fireworks, speeches, etc., in camp. Conporation Covrt.—Judge Meade is now holding his December term of the corporation court. Its session to-day has deen occupied with civil causes. The attendance upon his court is not large.
