CLOSE OF THR SEASON—THE CHAMPIONS. ‘The archery season closed last Saturday in this city, save two contests for the champion pins for the year, there being a tie between Miss Lucy R. Brown and Mrs. W. A. Bartlett, each having won it eleven times, and also between L. W. Maxson and W. A. Bartlett, each having won an equal number of times. Yesterday, by arrangement, the contest was renewed by the parties interested, and many members of the club were at the grounds bes'des vistors. The ladies’ champion pin was won by Miss Brown, at the single Columbia round of 72 arrows, the score being: Miss Lucy R. Brown, total score,'273; Mra. W. A. Bartlett, total score, 196. The gentléman’s pin was won by Mr. Max- son, on the single American round of 90 arrows, tho score being: I. W. Maxson, total score, 416; W. A. Bartlett, total score, 319. "The contest was spirited and earnest, thouzh the scores were not as high as at some of the other meetings, as Miss Brown has several times made over 300 points on cross score, and has made the highest score of the jadtes during the whole season. ——— Alexandria Affairs, Reported for THE EVENING Stan. DEATH OF W. C. Bontz.—Mr. Wm. C. Bontz died last evening at his residence on Pitt, near Queen street. Mr. Bontz has resided here since his birth and for half a century has been a well- known citizen. He was engaged for many years atthe fish wharf and was probably as familiar with the course of the fish trade as any man in this neighborhood. For twenty years previous to the war he occupied a place in the city post office. Few men have el more accommodating; none Tore unassuming. AN ELEcTion Cask.—An interesting case under th yited States law for the appointment of su- pervisors of election will be heard at an early day here. The conservative supervisor of the 4th ward, J. C. Tallaferro, made last Saturday a de- mand upon Samuel J. Wimsatt, registrar of that ward, to have exhibited to him tl e registration books of the ward for examination. The registrar dec'tned, and Mr. Taliaferro has procured a United States warrant against Registrar Wimsatt, charg- ing him with hindering and obstructing the U. 8. supervisor In the discharge of his dutles, on which Mr. Wimsatt will give bail for appearance at the U.S. court. Pouce Court.—at the last mayor's court Alice Kits, Phil Pratt, and Georgiana Day were fined and discharged:’ James Burney was fined §2.50 for assault and $10 for contempt of court.
