Mr. Small then measured the beer and the capacity of the glass In every case the glass contained less than pint, and many of the glasses were found to be a eapacity less than a pint, and Mr. Small confiscated the glasses. The Christlancy divorce case was brought to a close yesterday, as stated in Tue Star, by Judge Hagner, of the Equity Court, who granted a de- cree of divorce on the sult of ex-Senator and ex- Minister Christiancy. The case in which the original charge against the wife was adultery, with counter charges of bad treatment, &., which had been pending for over two years, was finally determined on a supplemental charge of desertion. ‘THE DECREE THE RESULT OF A COMPROMISE. ‘The action of the court yesterday was a surprise that If the original bill was withdrawn Mra. Chris- tlancy would not resist a bill simply charging de- sertion and abandonment, and that she would dis- miss the cross bill The decree 1s perfectly satis. tory to all parties. Mr. Ciristlaney pays all the ts of the suit, except those of the stenographer, whose charges are divided, and the suit has cost him about $10,000 in all. MRS. CHRISTIANCY has been out of the city most of the summer and left here a few days ago for a visit to friends in nicated with her by telegraph on the signing of the decree yesterday, and shortly after recelved a reply expressing her satisfaction at the termina- tion of the sult. ‘The decree of the court says: “It is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that bonds of matrimony heretofore entered into between the said Isaac P. Christiancy and Lille M. Chris- tlancy, for the desertion and abandonment set forth ih sald supplemental bill, be and hereby are di ssolved.” —_——_>—— District Government Affairs. CONTRACTS AWARDED. To the Editor of Taz Evexrxe Star: “‘Suffer the little ones to come unto me, for of such is ‘the kingdom of heaven,” = Apropos of the article published In Tie Srar of the 16th inst., of a troubled and dejected mother applying to the several asylumsof this city for the admission of her infant and being refused at each and every one of them, I would lke to in- quire through the medium of your paper whether it ts not compulsory for these so-called charitable institutions to open wide their doors to the help- less and impecuntous foundlings when seeking shelter? It isa lasting stigma cast upon the charity of thiscity that shrough the force of circumstances amother was compelled to abandon her infant when every effort had been made by her for its care and protection at the aforesaid asylums; and itis also a very noticeable fact that she was dis- eriminated against at one of the places (the re- Porter does not state the reasons for the others) on account of religious principles. When Congress makes Its liberal appropriations for the support of these institutions there never 1s an amendatory clause prohibiting the benefits from accruing to any particular sect, denomination or beltef, and if bigotry, sectional hatred, &., are to be the chiet characteristics of Washington’s asylums the time 4s ripe for revolutionizing these systems.
