The prisoner, William M. Winston, was before Judge Snell to-day, on two charges, under the new burglary law. On making an investigation of his lst of houses above mentioned, 1t was found that allof them were unoccupied and some of t 9 F strect, 917 1 stre street, 1430 S street, 205 1 } had been robbed of thelr gas-fxtures. THE SITUATION AT CUMBERLAND. The Knights of Labor were in session at Lona- coming, Md., until a late hour Saturday night. The New York central body of trades unions have adopted resolutions of sympathy for the Cohoes strikers. They also adopted a resolution denouncing the action ‘of the British government in the arrest of Henry George. THE LONG STRIKE AT COHOES. ‘The operatives who have returned to work in the Harmony mills Cohoes, N.Y., are jeered at by a great crowd as they go home in the evening. Last_week was the sixth of the stay out, and the prospect of a general resumption of work 1s not encouraging. =o TyPno Fever ar LONG BRANCH.—A telegram from Long Branch says:—The guests of the hotel Hellevue, just above Seabright, stampeded Satur- day because of two cases of typhoid fever among their number. The patients are N. W. Andrews, & brothor-in-law of Cyrus W, Field, jr., and Mis, Albert Lavy, a relative of the Scligmans. Mr. Corey, proptletor of the hotel, wanted them to be removed, and sald it would cost him at least $5,000 it they stayed. Mr. Cyrus W. Field, jr., says that the physicians have decided ‘that the condt- tion of the patients 4s too critical for them to be moved. He says that Mr. Corey demands $5,000 for Keeping the sick persons for ten days, but while they wilt not pay that, they will pay any reasona- Dlecharge. Mr: Corey says he will close up his house to-day, and will prosecute any one who breaks into it.
