Mrs. Richardson, In whose house tne bill was passed, was the first witness, and testified that last Monday evening the prisoner, with two other young men, came to her house and contracted a Dill of $3, ‘ahd one of the young men, Wm. Cun- ningham. tendered a note, purporting to be a $10 ‘bill, in payment, and she went to a neighboring salon and got Ie changed, and atterwards was informed by the saloon that it wasa bad note; but in the meantime the young men had left with the change—$7. Cunningham, the man who gave the note to Mrs. Richardson, testified that he lives-in Alex- andria county, Va., and was at the Center market on the night tp question, when Ball invited him to go up town and have a little sport, and insisted on Witness taking this bill to pay the’ expenses of the tip. While at No. 2 house—on D street, be- tween 12th and 13th—during the thunder storm, lightning on the wires sounded the gong and re- leased the stall door fastenings. ‘The doors flew n, and the horses came rushing out to their laces at the apparatus.
