Dodge, chairman of the committee on ig and repairs, Board of School Trustees, has mitted to the Commissioners a copy of the record of the action of that committee in reference to the use of the repair fund for the school build- ings for the current year. The appropriation of £15,000 will be divided ‘among the several divisions as follows:—I1st_ division, §2,500; 24, $2,000; 31, $2,500; 4th, $500; 5th, $1.20); 6th, $1,000; 7th, $3,300, making a total of $13,000. “The 'comm'ttee recom- mend that the sums named be expended in the several divisions 1a accordance with a detailed list of repairs to be furnished to the inspector of build- ings by the sub-boards of trustees of each di- vision. —————— Parade of Strikers. It grew out of the case of one of the chil- dren spilling some water in the passage way, where two families live. PHILADELPHTA, June 26—About half the miners in the Clearficl1 region are on strike to-day, six mines being idie in the vicinity of Houtsedale and four near Philadelphta. A complete suspension or a resumption of work will, it is thought, be de- cided on in a few days. ———— The Pennsylvania Democratic Con- vention. HareispunG, Pa., June 26.—Not over a dozen delegates have as yet arrived to attend the demo- cratic state convention, which assembles here on Wednesday neat. None of the prospective candidates have made thelr appear- ance. Headquarters have been established at both the Lochiel and Bolton houses by various candidates. Several of the candidates are ex. pected this afternoon and to-night. The indica- tions are that the convention will be one of the largest ever held in this city. ‘The few who are resent are of opinion that {t will require two days to complete the work of the convention. —_s—___ Affairs in West Washington. The coroner yester- day viewed the remains, and gave a certificate in accordance with the above stated facts. No cause is assigned for the act. Mr. Lucas leaves a wife and three small children. CHEAP FARE AND QUICK TRANSIT BETWEEN WASH- INGTON AND NEW YORK. Representative Hozelton, of Wisconsin, chatr- Main of the House committee on Pacific ratlroads, has reported a substitute for the original bill incorporating the National Railway company. The Substitute authorizes the company to build a Tailroad from Washington to the Hudson river, opposite New York. First-class fare between the two cities must not exceed $5, and the time for transporting the United States mail must not exceed six hours and thirty minutes, The charter cannot be assigned to any other company.
