His Whereabouts Still Unknown—Uis Previous Good Record—His Property Thouzht Sufficient to Square His Accounts, ‘The whereabouts of Mr. B. F. Bigelow, the miss ing receiving teller of the National Bank of the Republic, whose defalcation for $8,012.46 was reported in yesterday's STAR, has not yet been as- certained, and his friends are on the search for him fearful that he have taken his own life. Others believe that _he has gone out west, where he has a brother. Mr. Bigelow 1s a son of Dr. J.R. Rigelo w, now aclerk ‘In the Pension office, aud & most worthy and respectable gentleman, who has been a resident here for about twenty years. He {Sa native of Massachusetts, but bis son was raised in New York state and su soquentiy came to this District. Heis about 35 years old, very In- elligent, and has had considerable experience in business: He was in H. D. Cooke’s bank, in the mutilated currency branch, and went from there to the National Bank of the Republic. at the in- stance of the late Fitzhugh Coyle. During his smaployment at this bank he has stood well in tite -stimation of the officers. His salary was $1,600 per annum, but he has nanaged to pick up considerable private business 18 secretary for several organizations, which aito- uring the past ten years. SINKING FUND Cosnaissiox.—The commission of the sinking fund, which is made up of the mayor, the council presidents, che auditor and treasurer, met last night and sot! their accounts for the fiseal year. The commissioners advised the city councils to have the market house thoroughly painted. The report will be laid before the coun- cil at its next ineeting. ‘THR ST. ASAPH STREET RAILROAD TRACK.—The council committee appointed on the motion of Alderman Red to confer with the managers of the Washington & Georgetown railroad upon the sub- ject of the return of that road to St. ‘Asaph and ing streets, have had a conference and some communteations with Receiver Wilkins on the subject. B. Wibirt, late superintendent of schools in Alex- andria county. In connection with the appoint ment, the most prominently mentioned names are Major R. 8. Lacey, now vice president of the county school board; Banjamin Austin, clerk of the count court; ex-Superintendent G. R. Adams; J. Clements, a lewyer and ex-teacher of six years’ experience; Mr. C.D. Molby, and Perkin Squire, postmaster at Arlington, with the chances in favor of Squire Austin, Masonic INSYALLATION.—Alexandria Washing- ton Lodge of F. and A. Masons will install its new ofiicers at its next meeting. Itis now within a few days of 2 hundred years since Col.
