Mr. Blaine and the New York Asso- ciated Press. During his examination before the House foreign affairs committee to-day Mr. Blaine volunteered to the committee a statement concerning what he termed “a complaint by the Associated Press,” that he had obtained or exercised some Iberties con- nected with his testimony. He said they were only such as he had always been granted, and he had learned with much surprise that they had led to the removal of the late Washington agent of the New York Associated Press. He tren proceeded to read to the committee a copy of. letter addressed by him to the general agent of the Associated Press, in which he stated that the corrections made by him in the report of his testimony were only “such as were essential to accuracy,” and such as he, “in common with other witnesses, make in the’ official reports of the stenographer of the House.” He, also, in this letter, while admitting the " general ac- curacy of Associated Press . rents, questioned their “ right to determine just what a witness sid,” and remarked that courts of justice and ofictal committees permit witnesses to revise the reports of their testimony. Mr. Blaine further wrote: “J have as lttledestre as I have right, to interfere with the appointment or removal of your agents, but I protest against the assumption that I was accorded any privilege with my testimony save that which has always been given to witnesses, and which is essential to Justice and fair dealing.” Mr. Blaine went on to say that no notice had been taken of this letter. He said that instruc- Uons had been given the Associated Press reporter not to allow him to see the report, and during his public life this privilege had always been accord- eihim. It would be unjust not to accord hum the privilege. a ‘The Release of Brockway. PROCEEDINGS IN COURT TO-DAY. Mr.W. E.
