COMFORTING LETTERS. It would seem that in the case of Guiteeu the Postal law against sending scurrilous matter through the mails has been suspended by common consent. Daily there are q' postal cards of this kind recetved for him. St. George’s Union held a brief business session afternoon and in the evening assembled at Willard’s hotel, where they were entertained at a banquet given in honor of the 68d birthday of Queen Victoria. The banquet hall was appropri- ately decorated for the occasion, =a oll portrait of Queen Victoria in her coronation robes and a Glayon of President arthur being conspicuous ob- jects. This building is to be of brick, 64 by 71 feet for the main building, and the rear’ Duilding for evenings and assemblies 76 by 2 feet. The style 1s to be Gothic, similar in design to that of All Souls’ church, with spire 150 feet high; brick cor- nice; steep mansard roof, covered with slate, The auditorium inside wili be about 45 feet high, with or- chestra gallery over the two entrance doors. The spire will be made on the corner of Vermont ave- nue and the alley at the side of the church. There are to be door projections of neat design and quite ornamental. Less than 1,300 per- sons have paid the one dollar tax which Seles prerequisite for voting. The persons to be chosen are Leonard Marbury, commonwealth’s attorney; M. Mayre, clerk of the courts; M. B.
