A New Deparrere. ‘use in both hts stu his new and wont F ‘The tea-party given in the rotunda of the Capi- tol oa Saturday evening, by the Ladies’ Aid Society vt the Garfleld Memorial Hospital Association, ‘vas no less successful in attracting a large and :stinguished company than was the memorable one given in the same place seven years ago last December in aid of the ladies’s District committee ‘or the centennial exhibition. Many of the same tadies who made that entertainment so great a suecess were actively engaged in this one also, as well as a number of the more recent additions to var winter residents. Too much cannot be said in praise of the energy and devetion to good works of those who have labored for weeks to insure the success of tiris tea-party, and who, despite the rain outside and the cold draft in the rotunda, labored in making the final arrangements all day jong and stood at the tables unt'l midnight. 10 was much more laborious than arranging & fair og festival in a hall adapted for the purpose, the hard marble pavement mae ‘the taiigue of standing and walking more wearl- some than on a wooden floor. The crowd was almost too great to admit of much enjoyment of conversation and promenading, for hot only was the rotunda full, but the old Halt of Representatives, where the Marine band throughout the evening and the young people’ oe joyed @ dance after the crowd thinned out. The decorations of the rotunda and the tables repre- senting the several states were much admired, and the relrestiments for sale were greatly enjoyed by those sufficiently fortunate to get near enough to the tables to make purchases. ‘There was a ready Sule for all the flowers, Many have ex; ad the opinion that some of the rooms in the Senate and House wings, where there are seats, should have been open so as to ee weary to rest. The qonatiens to the tables of ee were very liberal Indeed. A jousekeepers in the city who contibuted pr prepared edibles in as dainty astyle asit for a banquet in their own houses. The donations from grocers and confec- Uoners were also very generous. The fortieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs Oliver Dufour was appropriately, celebrated at their residence on 14th street last Tuesday even- ing. Alarge number of corgental guests and old friends were present, many of them Tepresenting Indiana, the old home of the host and hostess, an ail greatly enjoyed the occasion. As Mra. Dufour has long been identified with literature, the exer- cises of the evening were naturally rather intel- lectual than festive in their general characteris- tics, and formed an agreeable medley of readings, music, recitations, ete. Notable among these fextures were recitations by Mra. Dora Dufour, Miss Flora Sullivan, Miss Eva Henderson, and Captain Wells; songs by Miss Annie Haas,’ Miss Grace Dufour, Mr. Clarence Dufour, and Captain Wells, and a’ solo on the flute by Dr. Tarkington. ‘The evening closed with a fine collation, and at a late hour the pieasant company separated, wishing the genial couple many returns of the day. ‘The reception given on Saturday afternoon from Richard Storrs Willis, in_the hand- belonging to his daughter, Mrs. Brod- Circle, Was attended by a number ladies and gentlemen, mostly resi- > | dents of W ashington, and members of the diplo- matt tain a corr.
