Parke ‘The Christiancy Case, THE DAMAGING TESTIMONY MR. CHRISTIANCY WILL OFFER. Judge Hagner, in the case of Christiancy agt Christiancy, yesterday granted the motion of Messrs. Cuppy and Ingersoll, the counsel for Mr. Christiancy in his divorce sult, for the examina- tion of Mr. 8 Chester as to admissions made George E Haight of alleged improper condi ag Taha Ratan cy tn r rem: h the should appear to be irrele- vant, it could be ruled out. The motion sets that’when Chester was examined certain inter- that he had no opportunity to show the relevancy of the testimony he designed to elicit; that since one E. T. Bowers has given testimony of the im- proper relations of INTIMACY BETWEEN MRS. CHRISTIANCY AND HAIGHT, Whose testimony shows his bias towards Mrs. Christiancy. The plaintiff claims that he will show that Mr. Christiancy left New York for Lima on March 2, 1879; that Mrs. Christiancy left to join him June 2ist, and arrived at Lima July 12th, 1879; that early on the voyage from New York to Aspin- wall, on the steamer Colon, she made the acquaint- ance of Haight, who was also bound for Peru; that they became very intimate through the voyage, at Panama, and on the steamer for Callao; that on meeting her husband Mrs. Christlancy spoke of the kindness she had received from Haight, and at her instance invited him tothe legation and he accepted the invitation, spending much of his time with her; that he (plaintiff) had no suspicion of anything wrong till he accidentally saw his wife one day SITTING IN HAIGHT’S LAP; that she was in the habit of getting up early In the morning whenever Haight was in Lima and going out with him for hours at a time, as also on evenings; that she went to Haight’s rooms in Cal- Jao and in Lima, concealing the facts from him; that in Peru Mr. Haight was in her bed-room at a hotel, and that she arranged with Haight that on their retura he was to support her near Philadelphia, and he, without the knowledge of plaintiff, gave her $400 to leave her husband and return to the United States, which she did in No- vember, 1879, he (Haight) having left the week be- fore; that he (Halght) met her on her arrival, and they spent a day or two together at a certain hotel in New York and came here together November ith. AS TO RECENT INTIMACY OF HAIGHT AND MRS. CHRIS- TIANCY. ‘The plaintiff also claims that the intimacy has been kept up, and recently, when a commission had been sent to Hartford to take Haight’s testi- mony, Mra. Christiancy went to Hartford and Haight engaged rooms for her at the City hotel, where she remained week or ten days under an assumed name, Haight visiting her frequently, night and day. ’ Plaintiff further purposes to show that Hatght is a married man with a family, resid- ing in Hartford, and therefore was under the strongest temptation to conceal his intimacy; that while Haight was in Peru, in the summer Of 1879, Mrs. Christiancy gave him her photograph; that when Haight went to Iquique and Arica, in 1879, he met Stephen Chester, and that the latter will testify that Mr. Haight told him that, when com- ing from New York to Aspinwall, he occupied the saine room and berth with Mrs’ Christlancy and had intimate relations with her, as also at Panama and on the steamer from Panama to Callao; that they had had the same improper relations at the legation in Lima, and at one time narrowly escaped being caught by the husband. Mr. Christiancy also claims that the parties sustained such inti- mate and Improper relations to each other that they would, in all probability, seek to protect each other, and their testimony woul! naturally be of strong Dias against him, and they would seek to establi: some other cause for her leaving Lima rather than the true one. Mr. Chester will be examined under this ruling, and other witnesses will be called, including Mr. Christiancy im: A WITNEss AGsrxsr Hiuser.r.—Chas.Otto Ulrich, who Was charged In the Police Court a few days ago by Louisa M.
