The Longfellow Obsequies, The funeral services over the remains of the pect Longfellow took place at his late home in Cam- ridge yesterday aiternoon. They were entirely private, and aside from the Longfellows,Appletons and Danas, relatives of the deceased, included several persons prominent in Mterature, the arts and sclences, among them Oliver Wendell Holmes, Ralph Waldo Ewersoa, W. D. Howells, Bron<on Alcott, Richard H. Dina, John @. Whittter, Louis Agassiz, George Willlam Curtis, Prot. Charles Eliot Morton, Cyrus A. Barton and Prof. Luigi Monti. The casket in which the remains were enclosed ws a plain one covered with black broad- cloth and wholly unornamented save by a silver ite bearing a simple inscription. ‘The only oral decoration on the casket was a handful of assion flowers. The services were conducted y the Rev. Samuel Longfellow, of Portland, brother of the poet. ‘The remains were then borne to their last resting place, at Mount Auburn ceme- tery and deposited in the family vawit. There ‘were public inemorlal services at Appleton chapel, Cambridge. Se UNFAVORABLE REPonts are received at Norfolk, Va., from the trucking districts.
