CLARKsviLLE, Howan Co., MD., Dec. 12, 1881. Three corps of engineers have finished survey> ing in this (Howard) aud Montgomery counties tor the most practicable route for the Baltimore, Cin- cinnati and Western Raliroad Company.’ This Toad received its charter two years As fastas the surveyors finish, deeds are taken for the Land (66 feet wide), and it speaks well for the farmers of Howard county that tacy clalin no dame ages. The route to be taken Unrough this (Howard county) 1s nearly the same that was surveyed the Baltimore and Onio seven years since to Gat thersburg on the Metropolitan branch, and has Sioce been abandone@ by the B&O. The colnmences at Curtis creek, in Anne Arundel county. at deep water, crosses the B. & P. at Har- mou station, the B. & O. at Jessup's Cut, and then Tuns through a fine granite country to sitny Ville milil and to the Maryland mica mines, whieh are managed by Mr. W. L. Towers, of your city, who will soon commence the manufacture of a'uica lubricator out of the waste, and a patent for the same has just been awarded.” ‘The road continues on to Clarksville, a distance of tour iniles from the above village, and runs ‘@ beautiful coun- try, where Ule finest Imestone is in abundance; thence to Lea’s mill (where it crosses the Patuxent into Moni county), Brookville, Bowte, Davises mill, Unity, and then west to the Metro: . politan Branch of the B. & O. at Germantown, and Tuns within a half mile of Poolesville, thence to the headwaters of the Monocacy, to Spinx Ferry, ‘Where it crosses the Potomac into Virginia. This road Will be built by the New Jersey construction com- pany, who are pushing the engineer corps so they can commence at once. The road runs through the coal ficids of Virginia, and 18 one nundred and fifty miles nearer Cincinnat! than ty the B.&0. The father of this great short route lo the west 1s Mr, Jay Gould. ‘The engineers in churge of this end are Col. Hayden, formerly of the B. & O., and Mr. Chun, of St. Mary's county.
