The circular which Guiteau early in 1868 issued against the Oneida Community and which had been preceded bya quarrel between him and Noyes, the chief of the order, 1s as follows: THE ONEIDA COMMUNITY—ITS INTERNAL CHARACTER— HOW YOUNG WOMEN ARE TREATED,ETU.—AN APPEAL TO ALL LOVERS OF VIRTUE. mmunity is among the most potixins of the nineteenth cen- tury, and whereas iu social matters they are constantly violating the most eacred laws of God and man ;and where- a8 nichtly innocent girlk and innocent young women a sificed to an experience easier iniagined than de- scribed, and whereas for the sake of these ruined and oppressed women and for the good of society at larze, said community ought to be ‘cleaned out.” "Therefore Jet all good people frown upon stich outrageous prac- tices; Jet merchants refuse to deal with them; let the press, bench and pulpit denommee with righteous indig~ hation such a terrible despotiam, remembering the that are iu bonds as bound with them. Let the reliious aud moral sentiment of the nation be awakened at such Erost licentionrness; let the proper civil officers_at once commence criminal pr ins awainat the leaders of that community to the end that it may be “‘wiped out” and the dixnity of the law vindicated. Keader, Whit say you? Shall it be done? Stand to your convictions and it will be. No nate is signed to this appeal, as the object of it 1s simply to call attention to the fact herein Set forth. Startling as they are they can be proved. The Oneida Community is located in Madison county, N. ¥., with branches at Wallingford and New Haven, Conn. GUITEAU’S EXPERIENCE AT ONEDIA- According to Guiteau’s statement he worked in the Onelda Community for some time and let Noyes have the use of his money, amounting to about $000. After realizing the true character of the com- mulilty and the practices, which he terms horrible, among them, he concluded to abandon thetr soci- ety. Noyes refunded his money, but refused to allow hit any Interest or to give him anything as com- ensation for the work he had done. This irritated Fulteau, Who instituted suit to recover what he Says was due him and unlawfully withheld by Noyes. It was at thjs time he published the above circular, but was induced to drop the contest be- cause of his father, who earnestly sympathized with the Onel Ce en Gidiones leave n,Cal Should Mr. Noyes conclude ada, and come to Washington to testify to the ul Truly and mischievous disposition of Guiteau, he may be subjected to an examination that will bring to light some of the buried mysteries of the com- munity, which he represented so many years. Cronin is alleged to be the boon companion of John Norris, another thief, who was sent down a few days ago for snatching a silver watch from a Mr, Wendell. When Norris was arrested the watch could not be found upon his person, though he was seen to take it. Yesterday Cronin coolly procured a step-ladder, and going to the bookstore of Mr. Mohun asked permission to go upoa the Toof of the Uullding to get some property which some one had maliciously thrown there. While in the second story he stole a ladies’ cloak, and was taken to the station house. Search was then made on the roof by the ofticer, and Mr. Wendell’s watch was found, where Cronin had thrown {t when pur- ned. Frank Cronin was charged in the Police Court to-day with second offence of petit larceny, in stealing a water-proof cloak from Judd_& Det- weller’s printing office, the property of Inez C. Elmer. Otficer Breen testified as to the arrest, and that Cronin admitted he stole the article, and that his object In wanting to get on the roof was to get the watch from thé roof that John Norris told Witness in jail that he threw there. The case was Sent to thegrand Jury, and defendant was com- mitted In detautt of $500 ball. Officer Breen after- wards got on the roof and recovered the watch. yy E OD! E ! N W GOODS! NEW GOODS!! The Wash- ington and Ohio passed some months ago into the hands of a Richmond court, and will be sold and Teorganized next February. The bondholders of that road in this neighborhood are now moving to revent the sacrifice of that road, and if possibie secure a reorganization of the company by the bondholders. Several conferences and meetings ‘with this view have lately been held, and a com- mittee of bondholders residing on the line of the Toad now have the matter in charge.
