THE FIRST EVENT. The call was sounded at 1:45 for the race of 3-minute horses, in which Granger, Blue Dick, Rachel and Clipper were entered. Rachel was the favorite until just before the call, when Granger was the favorite. The start was a bad one, Granger leading and Cilpper pracucally out of the race. It was won by Granger. who was but a nose ahead of Blue Dick. Time, 2 The second heat was easily won by Granger in 2:393;. Inthe third heat Dick se- cured the lead, Granger second, but the sorrel Went to the front at the turn and remained there to the finish. Rachel passed Dick and Went after Granger, making a fine burat of speed. She was about to collar him at the three-quarter pole, when she made an unlucky break. Y., May 4, says: The police commissioners met again to- night and took 11 ballots, making 150 in all, without electing a superintendent. Tn board then adjourned for one week, leaving the city Without a police force. Roughs in South Troy to day fired a load of straw in an alley, and the flames communicated to a tenement house, Which was destroyed. The windows of store3 in South Troy have been smashed with stones by gangs of young roughs, and several p:r Sobul Nights and assaults have taken place, but there has been nothing yet like a general’ dis- turbance.
