Father Barrotti was born at Bana, Italy, in i899, and was educated at the University of Touion and the Coliege of Mis- Sionr, atGeneva, completing his the porogical studies at the age of 23. He was ordained io the priesthood in 1565 and came to this country the following year. Alter haviny, at the college at Emmeiaburg, Md, learned the Eag- lish iapguage, he was sent ag assistant to Father soyle,then pastor of St. Peters church. in this city. Next, he was placed tn charge of the mission work among the colored people of Washington. When he entered upon this fl 1d of work a small chapel, known as St. Martin's, stood upon the site now occupied by the present wellknown St. Augustine church. ‘there was not more than 25 chiidren fa the Sanday echool; now there are 350, aud the ebureh membership has increased in the same proportion.
