THE EVENING STAR. WASHINGTON WEDNESDAY March 30, 1881. > CROSBY 8. NOYES. | ——— | ‘Whe Evening Star bas = regular, perma- | wont, bona ce dally ctrentation mere than 2yeble that of any other dally paper p lished In Washington, and equal to that ef | all the ether dally papers here added te- aother. WASHINGTON ‘The repnbdileans of Schuylkili county, Penn- sylvania, bave condemned the present method Of political organization and management. A recent meeting composed largely of the best CITY republicans to ‘hat county adopted resolutions declaring In favor of a party organization which gives controlling power to the people abd not to a few Wosses. This meeting pro- ceeded prompt @ carry out the ideas ex- Pressed by appointing a committee of two hundred to reorcanize the republican party of the county, under a system which recognizes the rights of ai repubileans. The people are pg away {rom the bosses In ali direc- Some of the men, who, by the machine system Of politics, have wielded great power, do not, apparently. reid the sign of the over- throw of boss rus: yet, it is platniy in view. dust at this time, nen the people are tired of machine rule, a war waged by politicians agatast a popular administration would have but one ending, ard that would be disastrous to the politic: AND POINT LOOKOUT —_—__+o+—. ‘The rallroad bonds which were repudiated by the state of Minnesota fall due on the first of next December. The amount repudiated was 32,275,000, and tue interest on the bonds was seven percent per annuum. The recent legisla- ture of the state created a commission to deter- maine the validity of the bill providing for the payment of this ouce repudiated debt before this bill was submitted to the people. The members of the commisston decline to serve, it aprears, and there {3 no way of compelling them. Unless the commissioners can be in- duced to serve, tt ts probable that the matter Will have to go Over until the next iegislatare shall meet. This would be unfortunate. Ifthe State could prepure tts fpances to meet and take up the bonds when they become due,it would,to a considerable extent, wipe out the stain of re- Pudiation « on herr a AILROAD. The burglar who entered and rebbed the house of Mr. Justice Field the other night is wise In his day and generation. He was aware that Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States have nothing to do with criminal Cases; whereas [ad he attacked the premises of the Judge of ite Police Court or those of one of the Judges of our District Court, who Oecasionally hold criminal terms, he very weil knew that It would go the harder with him and his brethren In the case of arrest. What Wash- ington seems to need ts to have two or three burglars enter the houses of some of the ofi- cers of our criminal courts by mistake. The effect of a few blunders of this kind would be as effective In reducing the number of burg- jaries in our city, as was Punch’s plan of strap- lpg railway dire on the coweatchera of locomotives for the prevention of rallway col- listons. —__--—____ The good times we are hearing of on all sidas seem to have their effect on journalism as on other business pursuits and enterprises. So favorably is the New York Commercial arver- (iser affected by them that it has been com- pelled to add a column to each of its pages and otherwise enlarge Its proportions, a3 well as to put in usea larger and faster preas, The Phila- delpbia Press, too, fads It, 1f not necessary, at least advisable, to issue a Sunday edition, which is somewhat larger and more varied tn its con- tents than its excellent regular dally editions, For these only who do not see the two journals Im question It ts necessary to add that ther = pscrosars.
