BEALE MUST GO THERE—DIFFICULTIBS ABOUT PAREONAGES AS WELI. AS PULPITS—DR. DRALE AND WESLEY CHAPEL—THE SITUATION AT HAM- LINE CHAPEL. The appointment of Rev. J. S. Deale to Ry- land chapel and the objection raised py the membership there to receiving him ts the topic of conversation among the Methodists of the city, and there is considerable anxiety to know bow the effalr will turn out. When the official members of Ryland last week filed a protest With the presiding elder and advised that It would be better for Dr. Deale not ‘o move there for the present, {t was understood that the matter would be arranged, if possible, by an exchange of some other minister with Dr. Deale. It is now stated that the sen- Ument of most of the ministers of the city, as well a3 many of the official men of other stations is that it would be a had _pre- cedent to establish should an arrangement be made for Dr. Deale to go to any other charge than that to which he was appointed—Ryland. Some go so far as to say that the people at Ry- land are rebels, but others clatm that the action of their oficial body in asking that gome min- ister who had not heretofore served in the Dis- trict be sent to them eG the presiding elder an opportunity to gratify them, and that the request should have been granted. Some, how- ever, Say that the purpose of this action was a ply to defeat Dr. Dealejs -appoiatment ere, at Ryland During the week some of the offictal board of Ryland have written to Bishop Simpson as! ing that before the question of sending pi. Deale there is finally determined, they sisuld De heard, and if he 1s unable to come here and five them a hearing, that he should refer tue question to Bishop Haven, who resides here. st row appears that the first communtcation that of the presiding elders—has been auswered by Bishop Simpson, and the result is that D). Itis stated that these resignations were forwarded to the presiding elder to-day. DIFFICULTIES ABOUT MOVING. This unsettled condition of affairs as to pul- Pits makes some trouble as to parsonages, and the families of some of the ministers cannot be Said today to be enjoying a “Home sweet home.” Rey. L. M. Gardner, of course, will move his effects from Ryland parsonage to the Parsonage of Mt. Zion, but will deliver the keys to the trustees of the church, and until they will open to Dr. Deale the latter cannot move in. Rev. Mr. McKenney cannot well leave Hamline parsonage and move in on Dr. Deale atthe Wesley parsonage, and Rey. Mr. Hart- sock’s effects, which are destined for Hamline Parsonage. will be here to-day, but will have nowhere to go until Kev. Mr. McKenney has vacated that parsonage. PLEASANT AFFAIR AT WESLEY CHAPEL, Last evening there was a very pleasant affair in the Sunday school room of Wesley Chapel— the occasion pele a reception to their new pastor, Rev. W. I. McKenney, and a farewell to their late pastor, Rev. Join S, Deale. There Was present quite a large audience, including Rey. B. Peyton Brown, prestding elder; Rev. Messrs, Mytinger and King, Commissioner agate and representatives of other churches of the District. The exercises were opened by eine the hymn, ‘‘Blest be the tie that binds,” and Dr. Deale offered prayer, tn which he impiored God’s blessing on them fn thetr re- spective spheres of labor. Tie Mt. Vernon Quartette and a@ quartette from the churen iollowed with vocal music, and the ladies served some enjoyable refreshments. An hour or two was spent socially, and before separating Mr. W. R. Woodward, in behalf of the members of Wesley, pre- sented Dr. Deale with the resoluttons adopted al the meeting of the offictal body, (published in STAR of Tuesday.) “Mr. Wood- Ward said that it was but due to Dr, Deale that this action should be taken, and it was pecullarly appropriate at this time. ‘The hearts of the brothers and sisters of Wes- ley were with him, and to-night they had (pea one tamfly to wish him success, ev. Dr. Deale replied that although he had read the resolutions in the papers, this act was unexpected, and he need not say to them that it was poprec ted by him. He felt that he had done his duty, and in his three years’ ser- Vice he could not recall a single tustance of disagreement with the officiary of the church. He may have made mistakes, but his con. sclence was Clear, for his sole object had been the advancement of the cause of Christ. He would carry to his latest hour the remem- brance of the pleasant intercourse had with them, and he implored God's choicest blessing on this people. TBE FEKLING AT HAMLINE CHAPEL. It will be remen:bered that prior to the re- cent conference the official body of Hamline M. E. Church requested that Rey. J. S. Boole, Of the New Jersey conference, should be trans- ferred here and ‘appointed to that charge, and when It Was found that this arrang-ment could Lot be made they asked that Rev. T. L. Poul- son, of Baltimore, be the successor to Rév. M Mi Kenney. They did not succeed in this, ever, Dotwithstanding the fact that a commit- tee visited Martinsburg to secure the appoint- ment, and a minister was sent them whose name had not been menttoned in connection with tne charge—Rey. Mr. Hartsock, for: ly of Union Chapel. Lust Sunday morntag Mr. Barisock entered on his duties and made # very good Impression on the Congregation, his wei- e@me being quie a hearty one, for they re- erenized the tact: that he was not to blame for their disappointment. At their oificial meeting, on Monday night last, several ra: Ucns were adopted. The first declared th confidence in, and esteem for, Rey, Mr. Poul- Son; the second, that their request for the ap- pelniment of Mr. Poulson was a proper one and stould have been recelved with greater consideration, and that the action of the pre- slatg elcer (Rev. 13. She had, am informed, suffered of late from severe at- tacks of vertigo, the tendency of which ts now only too wellexplained. I have feared that the defensive paregrapbs which have appeared in our dally Lelie from the Ferry company might mislead some minds in regard to her real condition.
