Brady, M. D. Heim, i. D. Cooke, jr., and Frank B. Conger, are gentlemen of recag- | nized energy and ability, and they will nike a strong newspaper team. —— | ‘The recent decision of the U. 8. Supreme | Court in the case from Virginia, involving the | payment of an ante-bellum debi, that had been | paid during the rebellion In confederate money, | appears to have caused the Virginia reatjus ers to make avery decided changa ia their opinion as to state sovereigniy. In all the scuthern states, with perhaps the ex- ception of Maryland, provision 1s made at the public expense for the education of colored teachers for the schools of that race. Missis- ‘sippi has several normal schoois for the educe— Uon of colored teachers and a fine growing col- | lege, presided over by ex-United States Sen- ator Revels, for the same purpose. In that and other states having a large colored population experience has so completely demonstrated the superiority of colored teachers for colored | Schools that there is perhaps nota aingieschool board in the state that would employ white teachers for those schools unless colored ones | could not behad.
