About i o'clock Christmas day, as Mrs. Shiply, living at No. 222 4), street southwest, was inthe act of going outoft a backdoor cf her house into the yard she was shot by some unknown person from the direction of Willow tree alley, the ball, a large size one, entering theatdomen and passit nearly through her body. Drs. Hammett and Fenwick were calied in and sueceeded in extracting the ball. but the injury proved fata. The unexpected shot was, of course, a great shock to Mrs. Shiply, and she was delivered of a son—her third child—tive urs after the shooting. Inflammation then set in irom the wound and she Itngered tn great dis- tress until last night, when death relleved her of her sufferings. She was the wife of Mir. Thos. Shiply. a blacksmith. doing business on C, De. tween 43; and 6th streets northwest, and was 2 years old. The oldest child ts five years of age.
