McGinn, chief clerk of the health department, teatitied that on the ist of Novem- ber, 1879, he visited the premises on the north- east corner of 14th and Bst ree squares from Pennsylvania avenue. There were four or five kettles there, one being in use, Mr. Murdock, ina conversation with him, claimed Vhat if @ nuisance Was created it was not In- tentional. Adams testified that he was con- nected with THE Svar, and In the fall of 1879 roomed at Willard’s Hotel; suffered much there from the smell and sense of suffocation and irritation of the throat, particularly in warm Weather and when the wind was from the south; had notified the proprietor that he would have to change. Cooke testified that he ts one offthe proprietors of Willard’s Hotel; that in the fall Gf 1879 there were numerous complaints by the the hotel because of the smell from r the smell penetrated the entire hotel, affecting the throats and lungs of the guests, and several guests left the hotel be- cause of the odors. Srar Test- At the Albany Penitentiary. ARRIVAL OF PRISONERS FROM WASHINGTON. On Tuesday last, at 1 o'clock, Gen. Crocker, the warden of the jail, with Dr. McWilliams and Capt. W. (. Crocker, delivered to Mr. McEwen, the warden of the Albany county Penitentiary, the prisoners with whom they Started on Monday night last, viz: Sandy Pion, convicted with Queenan and Bedford of the murder of young Hirth, and sentenced for lite; Lewis Howard, convicted of burglary (second offence) and sentenced for twelve years; and Wm. Randall, convicted of burglary and sen- tenced for three years. PINN GRTS SHAKY. Howard had been up before for 7 years, and evidently had not forgotten the ruies.
