Riddle, the attorney for the Dis- trict, Sent in his report for the year ending June sdth'last to-day. The Collins case, &n information forcreating and maintaining a nuisance injurious to health, was taken to the Criminal Court, where it was decided that the information was tnvalid, and that, while the board of health had power to define what a nuisance Is, it had u0 power to impose fines and penales. I. of the Order of Odd Fellows and aa old citizen of the western part of the city, took place yesterday afternoon at the Western Pres- byterlan church. There was a large attend- ance of the relatives of deceased, over 70 of his direct descendents being present, and the Grand Lodge and Friendship ige of Odd Fel- lows’ in carriages, and many members of old Washington faiilles. The Services were con- ducted at the church by Rev. Mr. Wynkoop, the pastor, and at the grave at the Congres- sional cemetery on the part of the Odd Fellows’ by Rev. P. H. The engineer observed that the animal crouched close to the ground as he was struck by the cowcatcher. A minute later the fireman saw a bit of white muslin flattering on the locomotive, and he stopped the engine. On going back to where the dog was killed. it Was discovered that not only the dog, but a lit- Ue child had been killed. It was then seen that the dog had been standing guard over the child, and had barked to attract the attention of the engineer. The faithful animal had sacrificed his life rather than desert his charge. Thechild bad wandered away from a neighboring house, followed by the deg, and tt 1s supposed that the child lay down and went to sleep on the track.
