THE STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED FROM NEW YORK THTEVES, For some days past there have been rumors that quite a heavy robbery had been committed in one of our city banks, but the matter wa3 kept very quiet, and the officers of the bank in question, (the National Metrepolitan), succeeded in recovering the stolen property a few days since. It appears that on the second day of July the bank officials were gone busy pay! dividends, €c., In addition to their regular busi- ness. Mr. G. H. B. White, who occupies a desk in the northeast corner of the room, (approached by a gate in the iron railing, at this point only about four feet in height), was busily engaged auswering questions on business of some four or five persons, and had before him on his table a package containing negotiable bonds valued at above $15,000, preparatory to cutting off the interest coupons which had fallen due; also, some real estate notcs not Regotiable. Health Oficer Townshend yesterday addr aletter to the District Commissione: g that on the 12th instant, finding that complaints of neglect on the part of the collectors of garb- age were becoming more frequent, and recog- nizing the fact that we were about entering upon the season when a large influx of melons. green corn, &c., would greatly increase the amount of the garbage to be removed, he in- Structed Sanitary Inspector Kobinson to devote himself for the period of one week to making a thorough investigation into the manner in which the service was belng performed, and to make a report thereon, giving a plain state. ment of facts in the case. He states that he did this in order that he might know to what extent extra service for the increasing acca- mulation would be required; that the.cause of neglect reported in certain sectiodS might be ascertained, and that he might be able to act intelligently in remedying detects, if found to exist. On the lith Inst. Mr. Robin: son made his report, a very thorough one,show- ing that he had fully canvassed the two cittes. The report showed plataly that the contract was far from being coruolled With, and would have fully justified him (ihe Health Officer) in reporting that fact to the Commissioners.
