Jones, residing at 1338 New York ave- W., has addressed a note to the District Commissioners advocating a change in location of raliway tracks on New York avenue in cou- nection with the construction of the sewer to be built on tual avenue, between 7th and 15th streets. He says “at present the railway tracks are inthe center of the street, the cars of the | railway company having the exclusive rigit of way to the very best portion of the avenue, to the prejudice of the comfort and interests of the large number of people who daily pass to and fro. Had the authorities who granted the right of way to the railroad company the Knowledge and experience the eftizens on that line now possess, It {s safe to say that the cen- ier of the street would not have been given up to the ratiroad, but would have been reserved for the exclusive use of pedestrians, thereby affording them a shaded walk in summer and a sunny and dry one the winter. Hitherto io have required the novel of the tracks would have put the com- pany to great expense; but now, as It Is report. ed the new sewer is to be built under the line of the southern track,—thus for the time greatly interfering with the traffic of the company, it Indeed tt does not absolutely stop for awhile the running of the cars,—seems the able mo ment for reclaiming for the benerit of pedes- Jans the ground occupied by the tracks of the ‘iway company, and their removal and loca- tion along the northern and southern curbs of the parking.” The paper has been reterred to the Engineer Commissioner.
