Bradley, charged with being an unilcensed produce dealer. was tried—Mr. Miller for the District and Mr. Bi n-y for the defendant. This was a test case, the int being as to whether the District should required to poe in making out a case that the party bought his goods as well as sold them, and the Court held that it must be so shown to insure a conviction, and the fact that the party soid oranges, lemons and fruit not growa in tbls vicinity, was not sufficient to prove that b had bought them. THE DEATH oF MR, FRANK WYMAN—CAUGHT ON THE COW CATCHER OP AN ENGINE—AN INQUEST TO BE HELD. Mr. Frank Wyman, who was fatally injured in some manner unknown, at Annapolis Junc- tion, on Monday evening, while returning from an excursion to Annapolis, and was brought to this city Tuesday morning and taken to the Providence Hospital, where he has been treated for a fracture OF cut through the skull, died there last night, about 12 o'clock. Coroner Pat- terson was hotified, and will hold an inquest this afternoon at the eighth precinct station house. It has been ascertained that Wyman was Injured by an engine attached toa Western train, which was passing at the time the excur- sion train was standing on the siding. He was st John Henry Kienan, a bookbinder, who is employed by Mr. Wm. H. The Jackson Democfatie Association met. last night at the corner of Sth and E streets, the pres- ident, Mr. J. E. Norris, in the chair, Mr. B. F. Lioyd, secretary, and a full attendance, the hall being crowded With all of the old members, and many new ones. The chair announced that the Opportunity presented itself to all the old mem- bers to come forward and enroll their names anew, without money and without price. Tavy would only be required to pay their dues frym this Ume forward. The rush was so great tat it was almost impossible for the secretary to make entries fast enough. Several of the old meinters stood aghast at the spectacle, and ta- quired of the chalrman If the tlood gates were open to every body,as men had presented them- selves, Claiming to be old members, who had never before been there. The chair sald none | Would be admitted except by the termsof the constitution. The, opportunity was offered 9 old members only. Walker for e! He said he thought Gert. W. could serve the de- mocracy of the District as well or better than any other man. He held the gentleman fir named in the highest respect, but it wa: Gemocratic to give every one a chance to vote his seniiments. They wanted uo gag law here. He thought Gen. Walke: relations were such to Gen. Hancoc that be could bring the association nearer to thelr future President than any one in this Dis- trict. He spoke in bigh terms of Gen. Walker, giving his pedigree. Some one objected to Gen! Walker on the ground that he was not a mein- ber of the Jackson association. This, however, Was disproven on the spot. Mr. Thos. B. Kalo- tus here got the floor, andstated that General Walker would not under any circumstances be- come president of this association unle s har- mony was to be observed. He was authorize1 to withdraw the name of Gen. Walker. After scme expressions of regret at this announce- ment, Mr. Davis renewed his motion in relation to Mr. Norris, and the secretary was instructed to cast the ballot of the association for Mr. Nor ris, which was done, amid great applause, Mr. Norris acknowledged the compliment paid Fatal Accident at a Pic-nic. A WASEINGTON YOUTH DROWNED AT FOREST GLEN. ‘The pleasures of the Calvary Baptist church Sunday school picnic at Forest Glen yesterday Were marred by the drowning of a yeung man named John Lowey, 19 years old, son of Mr. R. G. Lowey, of the Government printing office, and a member of the Sunday school. This young man with a younger brother and another youth, ab- sented themselves from the rest of the’ and went to the creek, a distance of w of a mile, for the of bathing. The unfortu- Late youth waded out into the water, and sud- denly disappeared in a hole some ‘nine feet deep, and being unable to swim he sank tothe bottom. His ther and a boy companion could notwwim and ng assistance could be ren- Ted. His younger brother then caught up the clothing of the drowned boy and ran to the tenie grounds to give the alarm, when the men ‘longing to the party hastened to the spot, but too late to save the unfortunate youth. The body was recovered and ineffectual efforts were made to restore life. Word was sent to Brightwood, and a telegram sent to the drowned boy’s father tn this city, who took the next train and the body was removed to the train and returned home. The mother of the unfortu- nate young man was of the party, and was nearly heart-broken at the sad accident. She labored ea and earnestly to restore breath to her son. The youth bore a most excellent character, and Was a great favorite among a large eircie of friends, and much sympathy for the afflicted family was expressed by the parti- cipants of the plenie. END OF A CO-PARTNERSHIP StiT.—This morn- Ing, in the Equity Court, Judge Cox dismissed the case of Wm. Fletcher agt. Hugh Murray. In 1S72 a contract was awarded to Hugh Murray for grading and paving 4th street from Peon- sylvania avenue to M street, and {n November last Fletcher filed a bill for the settlement of the co-partnership, which he claims he had with Murray, and asked that one-half the pro- fits of the work be decreed to him. ‘The case was argued by Mr. Christy for Fletcher, aud Mr. M. The child went with his mother to prison when she was committed by Justice Ferry on June 30 for drunkenness, ‘The mother and child were before Justice Rey- nold’s yesterday on a writ of habeas corpus, aud the father asked for the child, saying that he did not wish him to be confined wit Yicts, =The woman refused to give up her child when the court ordered her to, and the father attempted to take it by force. Si, ny ih. con- Se A FRAUDULENT PENSION.—Dr, Sidney D. Grant, William Owens alias William Stafford and Michael Ward alfas Thomes Callahan were arrested last evening by United States Marsh- als Buck and Beehler, charged, on a ‘warrant issued by United States Commissioner Rogers, . with defrauding the government. It appeared that Willlam Owens had served in the army during the late war under the assumed name Of William Stafford and that since then he ap- plied fora Pension, but under his real name. Of course tile pension was dented him unless he could prove by. witnesses who had served in the army with fim and by a phystelan’s ceril- ficate that he ‘as really entitled to the pen- sion. Accordingly, it is alleged, he induced Michael Ward. uncer the alias of Thos. Calla- han, to identify him as having served with him in the same company and regiment through the war.
